Renewable Energy Conclave 2026: India’s Clean Energy Push And Policy Gaps

From wind corridors and waste-to-energy to battery storage and grid stability, industry experts unpack India’s race to 500 GW and the investment hurdles

At the RE Conclave held in Gujarat, leading voices from industry, policy, and academia mapped India’s clean energy journey and the obstacles ahead.

Dr Jami Hossain of the World Wind Energy Association highlighted India’s 54 GW wind capacity and the urgent need to add 60 GW more in the coming years. Pankaj Patel, Founder of Green Sikka Foundation, focused on converting bio-waste, agricultural residue and municipal waste into sustainable fuels, warning of growing landfill and pollution risks.

Amit Khandelwal of KP Energy flagged policy uncertainty and the need for faster digital governance, while Nirav Pankaj Shah of NPS and Associates stressed land acquisition and incentive clarity for investors.

Dr Rahul Walawalkar of the NetZero Energy Transition Association underlined India’s 500 GW target by 2030 and the rising role of energy storage. IIM Ahmedabad’s Professor, Amit Garg emphasised domestic manufacturing, grid stability and long-term investment.

Together, the speakers delivered a clear message: India’s renewable future depends on stable policy, strong infrastructure, and rapid execution.
